Major General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman was commissioned in Bangladesh Army in 1991 in the Corps of Infantry. In more than three decades of military career, the General served in various command, staff & instructional appointments. Important appointments held by the General include Director of Military Operations Directorate (DMO), Director of Inspection and Technical Development Directorate (DITD), Commandant Army War Game Centre (AWGC), Senior Instructor (SI) and Directing Staff (DS) at Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), General Staff Officer Grade-1 (Operations) at an Infantry Division etc. Under the Blue Helmet, the General served as a Contingent Commander of a Bangladeshi Infantry Battalion in Gao, Mali. Major General Mushfiq is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College and National Defence College, Bangladesh. He is also a graduate of Command and General Staff College (CGSC) in Leavenworth, USA. Major General Mushfiq holds two Masters Degrees in Defence Studies and in Security and Development.
